EMPLOYMENT LAW

The Employment Group offers a wide variety of legal services, including litigation and support services, to corporate counsel, business executives and managers, and business owners who face an ever widening array of legal compliance issues and daily on-the-job employment issues. Frequently we are asked to provide advice concerning the morass of state and federal laws which govern the employment area, including claims of discrimination and harassment, as well as claims arising under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Leave Act and the various Federal and State Civil Rights Act.

The group also advises employers in transactional and procedural areas such as hiring, termination, severance agreements, employment contracts, employment manuals, restrictive covenants, and benefits counseling. In working with business management, the Group's goal is to provide that critical ounce of prevention that eliminates the serious risks of protracted disputes and potential litigation. To achieve this goal, the group regularly conducts Management Awareness Counseling and Audits -- reviewing policies and practices and recommending changes to comply with evolving laws.

Internal Audits: The Group also provides Internal Audits in such areas as employment discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, employee-executive misconduct, and other areas. As a result, our attorneys can recommend appropriate mechanisms, be they changes in practices, internal controls, policy enforcement, training, mediation, arbitration, or litigation.

As needed, the attorneys of the group call upon the expertise of other members of the firm to address a client's needs. Seminars are presented both at our offices and in clients' offices to apprise managers of critical issues, and the group publishes periodic updates to keep our clients informed of issues and trends.

We are active in the rapidly evolving field of employer-employee law and focus on the prevention of employment problems, including age and sex discrimination claims.

Members of this group are: Robert M. Jacobs, Bruce R. Rosenberg, Kenneth K. Lehn, Scott K. McClain and Edward P. D'Alessio.
